Final...

Measurements:
41cm length
5cm from base
3cm width each side from 5cm mark
Cut to triangular point at top
Cut down the middle to 5cm mark

Algorithm:
1. Fold right piece behind left piece horizontally
2. Turn to make L shape
3. Repeat

Precedents

These are some examples of Putiputi (flowers) and how to make them. I chose to use this for this project because I thought it would be interesting to see if I could make an algorithm with from the forms and experiment with the idea of folding and platting, almost an origami style of making these shapes.
Here is a site that demonstrates how to make Putiputi from Harakeke (flax).

More Trials...

With these ones I tried to play around with different cuts to see how they would turn out, and if they would fold the same as the others...

For this one I just ripped the paper to see what effect it would get. I didn't really get the same form as the others because it they were straight rectangular pieces instead of triangular ones.

This one I cut the pieces differently again and got this form, a bit better and more structure than the other one.

This cut was worked out way better and actually folded really nicely into itself. Had a much better form than the previous two.

Experimenting with Colours...

These trials are pretty much the same as the last one but just using different colours...
The black and purple trial is 5cm each side, where is the pink and yellow I tried 3cm and gave it more of circular form right around, especially the base part the is more hexagonal.

I thought the colours really helped make the form stand out a lot more than just plain white.
It also makes the pattern jump more and you can see how each part fits into itself.
